Quadrants
An ecological sampling unit that consists of a square frame of a known area.
 
Quarantine
Enforced isolation or restriction of free movement that has been imposed to prevent the spread of diseases, pest and other unwanted materials.
 
Quaternary consumer
An animal that gets its energy from tertiary consumers.
 
Quota
Amount of catch allocated to an individual fisher (e.g. referring to a ‘total allowable catch’ in the fishery).
