Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve

Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve is located in the inner Shark Bay gulf, adjacent to the Shark Bay Marine Park. It is currently the only marine nature reserve in Western Australia.

The reserve was created to protect the world-renowned stromatolites and is one of only two places in the world with living examples of this ancient cyanobacteria organism.

No fishing is permitted in Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve. To help protect vulnerable marine life, boating activity is not permitted over the stromatolites or within 300 metres of the shore.
