Local lobster is back on the menu for Christmas

An extra 23,400 rock lobster will be available for Western Australians this summer with the Local Lobster Program getting underway again from 1 December.

Special tags are used to identify lobsters landed for the program. Commercial fishers can sell these tagged local lobsters directly to the public, supply local fish retailers and restaurants, or donate lobster to a registered charity.

Commercial lobster fishers will have the opportunity to catch an additional 100 lobsters each, which will be made available for the public to purchase straight from the back of the boat.

To find out where you can buy a tagged lobster visit the Western Rock Lobster Council’s Local Lobster Program Buy & Sell Facebook page.

The Local Lobster Program runs from 1 December 2019 until 30 April 2020.

A document of frequently asked questions about the program is available on our website.
