Crabbing season kicks off 1 December in Perth and south west

Blue swimmer crab fishing resumes from Sunday 1 December between the Swan River and Minninup Beach, 15km south of Bunbury, following a new annual closed season.

Sunday 1 December also marks the start of new bag limits in the popular crabbing areas of the Swan and Canning Rivers, and Geographe Bay.

A new daily bag limit of five crabs per person applies in the Swan and Canning Rivers, and in Geographe Bay fishers can take a maximum of five female crabs as part of their 10 crab daily bag limit per person.

Boat limits remain at 20 crabs per boat, however you must have enough fishers on board your boat that their combined daily bag limits equal 20 crabs.

New management measures, including the seasonal closure and new bag limits, were introduced for blue swimmer crabs earlier this year to protect breeding stock.

You can read more about the new management changes in our info sheet online.

Cockburn Sound remains closed to all blue swimmer crab fishing until further notice.
