Sunday 8 January 2023

2023 marron season

The annual wild-stock marron season for 2023 opened at noon on Sunday 8 January and will close at noon on 5 February.

When you head down to our South West dams and rivers to get a feed, please remember the that rules apply to protect this valuable fishery.

You must have a licence to fish for marron. Bag and size limits apply and fishers need to be aware of legal fishing gear and areas closed to marron fishing. Read our marron guide for more details.

Fisheries Officers will be on patrol to make sure fishers are adhering to the rules.

We are also asking fishers to look out for marron tagged with either a green or yellow tag.

Our tagging program will help us find out more about the influences on marron abundance in dams. If you happen to find a tagged marron, please treat the marron as you would any of your catch as size and bag limits still apply.

If retained, please report the dam where you caught it, the date it was caught, the tag number and if possible a photo of the animal to Marcus Newman (Marcus.Newman@dpird.wa.gov.au). Alternatively, please phone (08) 9203 0132 and leave a message with these details.
