Celebrate the festive season with WA's freshest rock lobster

    • Back-of-boat sales for western rock lobster expanded with secure online ordering
    • Recipes and at-home cooking tips to inspire customers
Buying local rock lobster from the back of a boat has been made even easier this festive season, with the launch of a new website and secure online ordering system.

Since back-of-boat sales first began in September 2020, seafood lovers along the West Coast have rushed to support the supply of western rock lobsters direct from the dock. Consumers enjoy the face-to-face contact with fishers, who sell fresh live catch when they get back to port.

Being in touch direct with the community, lobster fishers have a perfect opportunity to share their experiences and build awareness of Western Australia's world-class rock lobster fishery and its commitment to sustainability.

Now, the Western Rock Lobster Council has developed a way to enhance customers' experience and encourage even more commercial western rock lobster fishers to get involved in back-of-boat sales.

A new ordering and payment platform is in place to help seafood lovers purchase WA's famous premium rock lobster direct from their local fisher. The website connects customers with fishers up and down the coast from Kalbarri to Mandurah.

Fishers are allowed to sell up to 400 lobsters per landing during December and up to 200 back-of-boat lobsters in other months.

Details on back-of-boat sales is available from the lobster fishers' new website here.

Comments attributed to Fisheries Minister Don Punch:

"Western Australians can be proud of our Western Rock Lobster fishery for its commitment to deliver quality seafood sustainably.

"22 years ago, it was the first ever fishery to be certified as sustainable against the international Marine Stewardship Council standard, the world's most rigorous and comprehensive independent fisheries assessment process.

"The McGowan Government supported the introduction of the back-of-boat sales. They've helped commercial fishers sell more than 160,000 lobsters since September 2020 and created a fun way to buy fresh lobsters for the festive season and throughout the year."
