How to Keep Native Freshwater Crayfish

Tank Water
The water in the tank does not need to be more than 15 cm deep. Normal tap water must be allowed to de-chlorinate (the chlorine breaks down) for a week, with the filter on, before you add your animals. De-chlorinating chemicals are available from aquarium stores to speed up this process.

Uneaten food will pollute the water. It is very important not to overfeed your crayfish. Should this occur, completely change the water in the aquarium.

The tank should be shaded from direct sunlight. For yabbies, the water temperature should not rise above 25o C and for marron above 24o C. If you are unsure tank thermometers can be purchased from most aquarium stores.
