The Department of Fisheries' community and schools education program operates at the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre and throughout metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
The Department of Fisheries Community and Education team provides meaningful learning opportunities that engage people with fisheries and the aquatic environment.
Through these experiences, the community can participate in and contribute to a sustainable future for Western Australia's aquatic ecosystems by increasing their understanding of the science and management behind sustainable fisheries.
Our learning programs are based on current science and data generated by scientific research at the Department of Fisheries' Research Division. Program themes include ecosystem processes, aquatic species diversity, aquatic habitats, human impacts and aquatic natural resource management.

Marine WATERS is a curriculum-based marine education resource including lesson plans, student worksheets, fact sheets, posters, articles, case studies, presentations and games - a joint initiative of the Department of Fisheries and Woodside Energy.
Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre http://www.nmdc.com.au
Located at Hillarys Boat Harbour, the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre (NMDC) offers informative and entertaining displays and activities on Western Australia's aquatic life and its fisheries. The NMDC's web site provides a number of additional resources, as well as booking facilities.

The Perth Beachcombers Education Kit contains activities, worksheets and other related resources useful for parents, children, community groups, educators and anyone interested in beachcombing.
The Department of Fisheries' community and schools education programs provide a variety of educational opportunities connecting regional Western Australians to the aquatic environment. These programs were awarded the 2010 Western Australian Science Award in the Science Extension Initiative category.
Educational opportunities can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the region and include schools, local events and festivals.
