The Western Australian Fisheries and Marine Research Laboratories

Benefits to the Marina

The Western Australian Fisheries and Marine Research Laboratories will make an important contribution to the increasing popularity of the Hillarys Marina. Visitors will be attracted to the research facility, adding to the four million visitors a year to the marina.

Other benefits to the marina include:

  • improved amenity at the northern inland end of the marina complex, with extra street lighting and 140 public parking spaces;
  • new public parking available beside the nearby dive shop and between the coastal dunes and naval cadets’ building, as an extensio n of the northern inland car park;
  • walkways and cycleways connecting the centre to the Whitford Nodes cycleway and Sorrento Quay; and
  • a privately-run kiosk and coffee shop to provide refreshments to staff and visitors to the research centre and people using the northern marina, beach and Whitfords Nodes area.

Transport to the Laboratories

It takes 30 to 45 minutes to travel from Perth to Hillarys by train and bus. During weekdays, trains leave the Perth platform about every 15 minutes, taking about 15 minutes to reach Warwick station, where you can catch a 423 bus on Platform 6 to Hillarys Boat Harbour/Marina.

From Warwick station, it takes around 15 minutes to reach Hillarys. If visitors are travelling to Hillarys from north or south along the coast, it’s best to check the services available by ringing Transperth on 13 62 13 or visit www.transperth.wa.gov.au

By car or taxi, take the freeway to Hepburn Avenue - less than 20 minutes from the Perth CBD - and head west to the coast. There is plenty of parking on the northern side of the marina.
