The Department of Fisheries is committed to boosting general public awareness and compliance with fishing rules to ensure our fish stocks are sustainably managed for present and future generations. To achieve these objectives the Department is investigating a number of collaborative initiatives designed to communicate important information to the wider community.
One such initiative, developed in partnership with Recfishwest, is aimed at retail outlets that provide a service specifically tailored to selling recreational fishing tackle, and involves a new service arrangement with the Department.
If your retail outlet meets the submission criteria of the new service arrangement, the Department of Fisheries will provide you with updated education material, fishing brochures, fish ruler stickers and a display stand.
In addition, you will receive window signage, inclusion on the Department's website to indicate that your business carries recreational fishing information and remuneration of $1000 per annum.
Contracted retail outlets will be required to display and maintain current editions and stocks of Department of Fisheries recreational fishing material and a Recfishwest brochure at a high-profile location within the tackle retail area.
This new service arrangement is expected to be in place for a two-year trial period between 2 March 2010 and 1 March 2012.
The tender is advertised on the Tenders WA website at www.tenders.wa.gov.au from 1 February 2010, with online application forms available from that date.
With the March 2010 implementation of new recreational fishing licensing reforms, including the introduction of the State-wide Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence (RFBL), this is an opportunity to ensure the community has broader access to a range of important information and education material.
Applications for the new service arrangement between the Department and tackle retail outlets must therefore be received at the Department of Fisheries' Head Office in Perth by 3.00pm on Friday 12th February for inclusion in the March 2010 program.
