Introduced Marine Aquatic Invaders - a field guide

What we are doing

Aeolid Nudibranch
Godiva quadricolor is a colourful nudibranch which was identified in WA in 1984 following its discovery in Cockburn Sound, where it lives on wharf pylons. So far, this introduced species has not been recorded in any other states. While its impact is unknown, this is unlikely to be significant.

The management of introduced marine pests has two components: controlling existing invasions and preventing the introduction of new exotic species.

State, Territory and Commonwealth agencies are working with industry and the community to prevent further pest introductions, to reduce the impacts and further spread of existing introduced marine pests, and to develop options for their eradication.

This information is one initiative by the Department of Fisheries to seek your involvement in the management of marine pests. It shows a variety of invaders that pose a threat to Australian waters. Everyone who uses WA's marine environment can help by watching out for these and other marine pests and report to FISHWATCH on 1800 815 507.

In addition, the Department of Fisheries has produced a field guide to a selection of introduced marine species and further information on them is available within this online field guide.

If you would like further information about work on introduced marine species being carried out by the Department of Fisheries or a copy of the field guide, please contact the translocation officer.
