The internet-based interactive model is designed to enable the user to predict the waste outputs from aquaculture ventures for a variety of aquatic organisms. Several aquatic species with high aquaculture potential in Western Australia were used to develop the quantitative model.

The aquaculture waste output model provides aquaculture proponents, governmental departments and communities with a useful tool to address this issue. A better understanding of the potential environmental loading of a given aquaculture farm will contribute to the development of better management systems, resulting in the development of a sustainable industry.
The model only estimates potential outputs. This information may be useful for proponents in the development of application for environmental and production licences. Each proponent must then consider whether any discharge treatment is needed prior to release and what site-specific environmental effects are likely.
