Aquaculture Groundwater Resource Atlas - Kimberley

The Kimberley Region consists of Precambrian fractured rock aquifers of the Kimberley Basin and the Halls Creek Groundwater Provinces.

These rocks are not known to contain significant groundwater resources, but locally, as at Halls Creek, favourable rock types, such as sandstone, provide useful supplies. Generally, success rates for siting bores on water-bearing fractures have been low. Groundwater in the region is mostly fresh.

Groundwater usage is very low, restricted principally to towns such as Halls Creek, communities, and for pastoral purposes.
