Purse Seine Management Advisory Committee

The Purse Seine Management Advisory Committee is established under Section 41 of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994. Its function is to provide information and advice to the Minister on matters related to the protection and management of:

• The West Coast Purse Seine Managed Fishery;
• The South Coast Purse Seine Managed Fishery; and
• Those class of fishing activities permitted to be carried by those persons, in the waters and in the manner referred to in -

• Notice No. 312 dated 22 June 1988 published in the Government Gazette on 19 August 1988;
• Schedule 2 of the Net Hauling Restrictions Notice 1991; and
• the Pilchard Fishing (Professional) Restrictions Notice 1992,

(together collectively called "the Fishery").

Membership of the Purse Seine Management Advisory Committee

This committee is in abeyance pending the outcome of a Ministerial review of all Management Advisory Committees established under Section 41 of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994. All membership terms have expired and lapsed without any replacement reappointments or new appointments.

Meetings

The Purse Seine Management Advisory Committee meets one-two times per year, following which a report is forwarded from the Chairman to the Minister for his consideration.
