Fish safely at Easter with free lifejacket loan

Fishers throughout the State can collect a free lifejacket for loan as the State Government and its partners ramp up efforts to increase safety for all recreational anglers this Easter.

Fishers are being urged not to 'put their lives on the line' by fishing from precarious rocks, as thousands prepare to make the trip to the South Coast for the annual Australian salmon run.

There are 22 lifejacket loan locations throughout the State, 12 orange life rings in high-risk fishing locations and six rock and anchor points installed at Salmon Holes in Albany, allowing fishers to tether themselves using their own rope and harness.

Since 2002, around 25 people have died while rock fishing in WA and anglers are encouraged to use appropriate safety gear, with information available on the Recfishwest safer fishing website.
