West Coast Zone abalone fishing to go ahead this Saturday

Recreational fishing for abalone in the West Coast Zone (WCZ) will take place between 7am and 8am on Saturday 20 February, with a medium risk rating for weather and ocean conditions.

Based on predictive modelling, Surf Life Saving WA (SLSWA) has recommended the fishing session should proceed with caution on 20 February.

Licenced abalone fishers planning to take part in the one hour session need to be confident in their skill level in the ocean and we strongly advise fishers to make an individual assessment of the sea and weather conditions on the day and ensure their clothing and gear are suitable.

For this fishery to remain sustainable, it is also vital fishers comply with bag and size limits for abalone. SLSWA has abalone fishing safety tips at: https://www.mybeach.com.au/safety-rescue-services/coastal-recreation/abalone/
