WA to host major international lobster conference

Perth has successfully won a bid to host the biggest international rock lobster biology and management conference in October 2020.

It will be the second time Perth − which hosted the inaugural conference 40 years ago − has been the venue for the International Conference and Workshop on Lobster Biology and Management.

The conference is expected to attract hundreds of the world’s leading scientists and experts from about 20 countries and provides an opportunity to highlight WA's western rock lobster fishery, which is valued at about $400 million annually.

The announcement coincides with WA's rock lobster fishery achieving Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification once again.

After being the first fishery in the world to achieve MSC certification back in 2000, and holding its accreditation ever since, WA's western rock lobster fishery is again celebrating the renewal of its certification for a further five years.
