Freshly caught black bream lies in fishers hand ready for release

Swanfish smartphone app will enhance knowledge of local fish species.

Swanfish first for catch, click and release technology

Perth's biggest and longest running family fishing event, Swanfish, will allow fishers to become citizen scientists with new 'catch, click and release' technology to collect data on local fish species.

It’s the first time in the event’s 30-year history that the new Swanfish smartphone app technology will be used.

Using the app, participants who catch a fish will be able to take a photo of it and quickly release the fish back into the wild. They can then log their catch using the app to gather data that will help shape our understanding of local fish species.

By logging their catch, fishers go into the draw to win some great prizes which have been provided by local businesses.

Recfishwest, which organises the popular event, will work with Fishability to run community fishing clinics while the event takes place this weekend on the banks of Perth's Swan River at Garvey Park, Ascot.
