Perfect time to tr(y)out freshwater angling

This year’s annual licence-free weekend for freshwater fishing is on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September, coinciding with the start of spring, Fathers’ Day, and TroutFest.

The weekend presents a great opportunity to have a go at freshwater fishing, as at all other times of the year a freshwater angling licence is required by everyone aged 16 and over when freshwater fishing in lakes, dams and rivers south of Greenough.

Trout is one of the more popular freshwater fish species, keenly targeted by local anglers and visitors.

The annual TroutFest event, hosted by Recfishwest at Drakesbrook Weir near Waroona, coincides with the licence-free weekend and is a great opportunity learn more about trout and freshwater fishing.

Kicking off at 10am on Saturday 31 August, activities and information available will include freshwater tackle and rigging information, fly casting lessons and demonstrations, a kids’ fishing clinic and a casting challenge.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development representatives will be at TroutFest 2019 with an information stall and freshwater fish display, so don’t forget to drop by and ask any questions you might have.
