Marine parks clarification

Fishers are reminded that Western Australia's two latest marine parks (Ngari Capes and Camden Sound) will not have any impact on current fishing activities until those parks are given effect under Fisheries’ legislation.

Once a State marine park is officially created under the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984, it is the Department of Fisheries’ role to introduce legislation to set out fishing restrictions within the parks.

Information on the rules that currently apply in the area of the two marine parks is available through local Fisheries offices or from www.fish.wa.gov.au.

Maps for the Ngari Capes and Camden Sound marine parks can be downloaded from the Department of Environment and Conservation website at www.dec.wa.gov.au.
