Illegal marron fishing catches heavy fines

Two men have been ordered to pay significant fines, mandatory penalties and costs totalling more than $12,200 for out-of-season marron fishing near Collie.

Both men were detected illegally fishing for marron as part of Operation Kerinci, which has been running throughout Western Australia’s southern region.

The first six weeks of the operation netted nine people for possessing marron out of season and a further two warnings, seven people for possessing undersize or spawning marron, 11 people for having illegal fishing gear and one person who gave a false name and address.

Call FishWatch on 1800 815 507 to report any suspected illegal fishing activity. Information on season dates, rules and limits is available in the Marron recreational fishing guide, which can be viewed online or downloaded.
