Hook up to the recreational fishing rules

We are always striving to improve the delivery of recreational fishing rules to fishers, so it’s easy to keep up to date.

Fisheries has traditionally provided recreational fishers with information on fishing rules in printed brochures and online.

In 2016 we worked with Recfishwest to enhance the way we delivered rules information to fishers culminating in a major revamp of the rules section on the Fisheries website and the release of the Recfishwest app.

As a result of these improvements, which are designed to help ensure fishers are provided with the most current information, Fisheries will no longer print the Recreational Fishing Guide.

However, the guide will continue to be available to download from the Fisheries website and will be updated with rule changes as they occur.

So fishers can now access the rules in three easy ways:

  1. Our website which provides rules on more than 180 species using high-quality images in a mobile-friendly format. The website has interactive maps with information about marine protected areas and common species by region.
  2. The free Recfishwest app, available from the App Store and Google Play, which offers access to the rules even if you’re out of phone range and has an easy fish identification feature.
  3. By downloading the Recreational Fishing Guide, available in two sizes:
    • A4 for desktops, tablets and those who choose to print at home.

The 2017/18 edition of the guide includes links to additional information on our website.

Whether its for bag and size limits, seasonal closures or licences, all the rules are at your fingertips – to help maintain the fantastic fishing opportunies here in WA and ensure there are fish for the future.
