In a bid to improve beach safety the State Government has announced the establishment of a Shark Hazard Advisory Research Committee (SHARC), led by WA’s Chief Scientist, Professor Lyn Beazley.
The committee will assess applications to fund innovative research projects into shark deterrents. The fund, totalling $2 million, is available to WA based organisations, including universities, research institutes, industry, and not-for-profit groups. It is anticipated research will be well under way by the end of this year. Grants of up to $300,000 will be available over a period of up to three years.
The first application round is open now, until 4.00 pm, 21 November.
