Fishing from a powered boat

If you are planning to fish from a motorised vessel don’t forget your Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence (RFBL).

This covers activities such as line fishing (including catch and release fishing), catching crabs and spearfishing from a powered boat. It also applies when a powered boat is used to get to a fishing location.

While most recreational fishers hold appropriate licences, some people are still not doing the right thing. The fine for not having a RFBL can be up to $2000 and fishers breaching the rule will have their catch seized.

Fishers are reminded that they are obliged to show their RFBL when requested to do so by a Fisheries and Marine Officer.

All the funds raised through recreational fishing licences are reinvested in projects directly benefitting recreational fishing in WA.
