Commonwealth and WA work together for better fisheries management

An agreement has been made between the Commonwealth and WA governments to realign fisheries boundaries off Western Australia.

The revised Offshore Constitutional Settlement (OCS) arrangement for the Commonwealth Western Deepwater Trawl and North West Slope Trawl fisheries meets a number of key objectives for both the Commonwealth and WA governments, as well as the fishing industry.

The agreement will provide greater certainty in operating conditions for fishers at a State and Commonwealth level and will involve fisheries management agencies working together to manage fishing impacts on any shared stocks through monitoring, research and management strategies.

The joint proposal was implemented following advice from stakeholders.
