Buy your fishing licences before you travel

Our beautiful coastline is full of great fishing opportunities, but if a fishing licence is required it may be best to buy it before you travel.

With the Southern Zone recreational abalone fishing season fast approaching, fishers venturing to remote locations on camping or day trips need to organise your licence before you go and make sure your take their licence with you.

Even though you can buy WA fishing licences online, if you head out from some regional centres, such as Esperance, there’s often little or no phone reception when you leave the town area.

Whether it’s an abalone licence for Southern Zone fishing from October and Mid-May or a recreational fishing from a boat licence, buy before you go.

We know fishers might be tempted to fish without a licence, but we urge them not to risk a fine from our Fisheries and Marine Officers who will be out and about – including those remote fishing spots.

So plan ahead – ensure you have a licence if you are required to, and make sure you know the rules and limits for the fishing you’re planning to do.

For more information see our recreational fishing rules.

You can also download our Recreational fishing guide in booklet size or the A4 print-friendly version.
