Aquaculture consortium to grow job opportunities in WA

A major consortium of local and national stakeholders is meeting in Western Australia to discuss emerging opportunities for the State’s aquaculture industry.

It is estimated that the industry has the potential to create and support up to 8,000 direct and indirect jobs over the next 10 years with the estimated value of WA's aquaculture industry almost doubling from 2007 to $12.4 million in 2013-14 (excluding pearling).

The Aquaculture Industry Engagement Consortium will focus on how local aquaculture operations and research facilities can take advantage of the rising global demand for quality seafood products.

Feedback from industry stakeholders within the consortium will feed into future decision-making.
