Abrolhos baldies get break to breed

The Abrolhos Islands are seasonally closed to baldchin groper fishing from 1 November to 31 January 2018 (inclusive) to protect them while they’re breeding.

The take, landing or possession of baldchin is prohibited within the Abrolhos Islands Fish Habitat Protection Area during this closed season, while they gather in the area to spawn as the water temperature rises.

All boat skippers must notify us if they intend to visit the Abrolhos Islands by completing this online notification form or filling in a form at our Geraldton office.

For more information see our recreational fishing rules.

You can also download our Recreational fishing guide in booklet size or the A4 print-friendly version.
