Abalone season shuts in Southern Zone

Recreational abalone fishing in the Southern Zone – from the Busselton Jetty to the South Australian border – closed for the season on 16 May and reopens again on 1 October.

A licence is needed to take abalone, a popular shellfish prized for its eating qualities.

In the Southern Zone, Roe’s abalone is fished, along with the larger brownlip and greenlip abalone.

Anyone who has information on illegal fishing activities is asked to call FishWatch on 1800 815 507.

For more information see our recreational fishing rules.

You can also download our Recreational fishing for abalone guide or pick up a copy of the guide from our offices and participating information outlets.
